Our Team

I am responsible in assisting Post 16 students at Maltby Academy in achieving successful and fulfilling lives, whilst advocating expectational and experiential learning experiences in the classroom.

Studying at Birmingham City University I did a joint honours degree in Sociology and Criminology, I have always been intrigued by our social systems, interaction, and power distribution. I believe as a sociologist; I can understand and improve young people's thought processes and engage them into becoming informed adults. I completed my PGCE at the University of Derby in 2014 and began my teaching career here at MA as a newly qualified teacher, achieving QTLS.

Quickly, I became subject leader for Sociology and Psychology and introduced the popular subject option Criminology at A -Level, which I have enjoyed as a job role for six years. Recently taking on the role of staff governor also allows me to effectively make positive changes and hold leaders to account for those studying at Maltby Academy. Securing the position of Assistant Director of Post 16 at Maltby Academy will be an exciting opportunity to work hard with Post 16 students and staff members to traject them on to their next life stage.

Mr Dobson graduated from The University of Huddersfield with a BA (Hons) in Popular Music, before then going on to complete his PGCE with Leeds Trinity University. In 2013 he began his teaching career in North-West Leeds, where he spent 6 years as Subject Leader for Music and then Student Progress Leader (academic year leader).

In 2019, Mr Dobson joined Sir Thomas Wharton Academy, where he served as a Teacher of Music and Student Achievement Leader, before then moving into his current role as Director of Post 16.
